Affordable gasoline, hundreds of thousands of jobs, in peril after Texas-sized EPA power grab

Hundreds of thousands of jobs in Texas and nationwide are in danger of joining millions of jobs eliminated by the Obama administration after a massive power grab by his Environmental Protection Agency.

“ The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday officially overturned a 16-year-old Texas air permitting program it says violates the Clean Air Act, leaving some of the country’s largest refineries in a state of limbo,” The Associated Press reports July 7.

“…The EPA’s decision, announced in a statement, will force some 125 refineries and petrochemical plants to invest millions of dollars to get new permits. Many of the plants may also have to invest in updates to comply with federal regulations, the AP story reads.

And Obama administration radical greens are gleeful.

“I can’t wait to take action on these permits,” EPA regional director Al Armendariz boasted to the AP.

The hundreds of millions, if not billions, of dollars in needless compliance costs are expected to drive up the price of gasoline and other products, most of which are made at one of the 125 affected Texas plants.

Not only are those jobs also threatened by higher operating costs and potential government-ordered shutdown, higher prices and costs for goods and transportation will force employers nationwide to trim their budgets, meaning more layoffs in what the Obama administration promised would be “Recovery Summer.”

ALERT: Obama and Reid are ready to vote on Cap and Tax

Posted on July 1, 2010 by Quallurce

Get ready.

The word around town here is in just a couple of weeks the Senate may begin the final debate on Cap and Tax.

The plan is to hold debate on Cap and Tax just before the Senate votes on radical green Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan and then go on August recess.

And with the Senate ready to hold a final debate on Cap and Tax, the final bill is starting to be pieced together by Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-NM.)  Senate leadership have decided to hand the bill off to radical liberal Bingaman because of his low-key personality, something they feel will make Republicans feel comfortable voting for the bill, the respected Washington newspaper POLITICO reports today.

“Bingaman is definitely a workhorse, not a show horse. Mastering the substance and details and going across party lines [are] key to moving energy legislation. Going on Sunday shows is not,” Paul Bledsoe, director of communications and strategy at the bipartisan National Commission on Energy Policy told POLITICO this morning.

Others noted that Bingaman has a strong track record on teaming with Republicans to move energy legislation,” POLITICO reports today.

Even worse, Alaska Republican Lisa Murkowski appears ready to work with him to impose Cap and Tax on you.

“Having Murkowski, a respected member of Senate Republican leadership, as his ally is perhaps Bingaman’s ace in the hole. While Bingaman himself is unlikely to make too much headway with Republicans, Murkowski’s outreach for votes could yield significant dividends,” POLITICO reports today.

South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham is already an outspoken supporter of an invasive, economy-wide tax on carbon dioxide.

Obama only needs one or two more Republicans to join him.

And what will be in that bill?  Welfare handouts to radical greens who invested in so-called “renewable” energy and massive increases in your utility bill.

In other words, a transfer of wealth from your pocket to Al Gore’s.

“…it appears increasingly possible that Democrats and moderate Republicans will coalesce around a mandate increasing renewable electricity and clean technology development… there is a willingness among some Republicans and moderate Democrats to consider a cap on power plants only. As it happens, Bingaman is now writing a power-plant-only bill,” says POLITICO

While there is some doubt there are enough votes in the Senate for the full Cap and Tax bill (though they said the same thing about ObamaCare and stimulus,) there is a general consensus a Cap and Tax bill that only applies to power plants – at first – can pass.

That means HUGE increases in the price of electricity, which forces employers to lay off workers and cancel plans to hire and expand just to pay their higher electric bills.

There you have it.  The Senate will begin debate on Cap and Tax in a couple of weeks.

Their goal?

Pass something, anything, that they can simply tack more price hikes, tax hikes and welfare handouts to.  And what they will pass will likely immediately call for huge job-killing increases in energy prices.

And how will they do it?  By handing the bill to a low-key New Mexico senator who is already lining up Republican votes for the bill.

But you and I can stop it.

1) Encourage 10 of your friends to go to and have them sign our petition to your two United States senators.
2) Click here or go to to rush your best gift of $35, $50, $100, $250 or what you feel you can give.  Any amount, no matter how big or small, will be used to flood Capitol Hill with petitions, faxes, letters, postcards, phone calls and e-mails letting senators know their constituents oppose Cap and Tax, and will hold them responsible for their votes.

The debate is just weeks away and the White House and Senate leadership are putting in the fix for Cap and Tax.  By handing the bill to a “bipartisan” “workhorse” they know they can pass a Cap and Tax bill that will impose HUGE price hikes on power plants, upon which they can easily layer on new tax after new tax for decades to come.

P.S.  Harry Reid plans to hold the debate on Cap and Tax in just a couple of weeks, before they vote on Elena Kagan and then go on August vacation.

And they’re pulling out all the stops to pass it.  They’ve given the bill to Jeff Bingaman, a respected, “low-key” radical liberal who is already lining up the few Republican votes Obama needs to pass it.  And they’re also considering just going with making power plants pay the multi-billion dollar carbon tax now, knowing they can just get the additional tax hikes even easier by passing something now and amending it later.

Help Western Tradition Partnership win this final debate by denying Obama those last few votes for Cap and Tax.  Have 10 friends sign our petition, and click here to help fund our fight right now.
