TAKE ACTION: Gas prices, pressure on Obama, skyrocketing

Posted on May 31, 2011 by Donald Ferguson

Dear ATP supporter,

Thanks to President Barack Obama’s anti-energy policies, gas prices continue to skyrocket.

But so is the pressure from American Tradition Partnership supporters like you.

This week is going to be a big one here in Washington.

May I please ask you to pick up the phone and make a quick call to your congressman at 202-224-3121?

Ask him or her to co-sponsor the REINS Act. (H.R. 10 in the House and S.299 in the Senate, sponsored by Sen. Rand Paul.)

As I said, this week is going to be hectic.  The Hill reports:

* The Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a hearing Tuesday on electric grid reliability

* The Transportation Committee will hold a hearing Wednesday on the Environmental Protection Agency’s nutrients policies

* The Natural Resources Committee will hold a second hearing aimed at “identifying roadblocks to wind and solar energy on public lands and waters.”

* The Science Committee will examine “harmful algal blooms” Wednesday

* The Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing Friday on legislation to ensure the country has a domestic supply of key minerals

* The Energy and Commerce Committee will take a closer look Friday at the administration’s regulatory review plans

And they have every reason to.

While Obama has kicked off his re-election campaign by claiming to support more energy development, behind the curtain he is paying off his environmentalist campaign financiers by deliberately blocking your access to affordable energy.

* They are blocking access to energy in the Gulf of Mexico by tying up permits in needless red tape, while sending millions of taxpayer dollars to Brazil to fund offshore drilling by a foreign company with ties to billionaire liberal political bankroller George Soros.

* They are blocking access to energy in the Arctic by raising silly objections, such as the failure to calculate the impact of a boat on the global climate.

* They are blocking access to oil and natural gas here in the United States by abusing the 1906 Antiquities Act to suddenly declare millions of acres of land as “national monuments, “blocking any plans to develop resources.

* They are also blocking access to natural gas reserves by telling outrageous lies about hydraulic fracturing, a safe and clean practice conducted for over 60 years on one million wells with no proven cases of contamination.  Obama’s EPA activists are now drawing up plans to simply write and enforce their own laws criminalizing fracking, with no input or approval from elected lawmakers.

* They are working hard to make energy more expensive and pay off campaign bankrollers by proposing a National Expensive Energy Mandate, which forces you to buy 80 percent of your electricity from more expensive, less reliable wind and solar corporations — wind and solar corporations that are failing, in need of this bailout from your pocket and who just happen to lavish millions of campaign dollars on Gang Green politicians.

Obama’s agenda means higher gas prices, fewer jobs, less prosperity and more dependence on foreign oil.

You and I are working every day to stop him.

We are pushing for a recorded vote on the REINS Act, which requires any proposed federal regulation with an economic impact greater than $100 million to be approved by both chambers of Congress and signed by the President before it can be enacted.

No more secret laws written and enforced by political activists with federal employee badges, with no chance to oppose it.

We are working hard to build opposition in Congress to the National Expensive Energy Mandate, and we are working hard to repeal or overturn them in states where they are already forced on consumers.

And we are fighting Obama’s attempts to shut off access to our own natural energy reserves by removing political roadblocks for energy permits and blocking attempts by political activists in the federal bureaucracy to use the Antiquities Act — intended to protect tiny prehistoric Indian sites from looters — to simply declare millions of acres of job-producing land off-limits to humans.

As you can imagine, that work is hard.

I can’t do it without you.

This week is going to be a busy one.

Gas prices continue to skyrocket, and so is the pressure American Tradition Partnership supporters are putting on Congress to do something about it.

They have responded by calling six hearings this week on energy issues.

That’s a start, but much more needs to be done.

So may I please ask you to call your congressman right now at 202-224-3121?

Ask him or her to co-sponsor (or thank him or her for co-sponsoring) the REINS Act (H.R. 10 in the House, Sen. Rand Paul’s S.299 in the Senate.)

Thank you for all your support in the past.  I look forward to continuing to work with you this week and in the future.

Supporters for ‘green car’ bailout are ‘dropping like flies’

Posted on May 27, 2011 by Donald Ferguson

Dear ATP supporter,

Can you please call your congressman at 202-224-3121 and ask them to oppose a plan that would bail out a politically powerful “green” investor?

“Reps. Tim Griffin of Arkansas and Glenn Thompson of Pennsylvania became the two most recent Republicans Thursday to remove themselves from T. Boone Pickens-endorsed legislation that would steer billions of dollars in tax incentives to natural gas-fueled vehicles,” POLITICO reports this morning in an item titled “Dropping Like Flies.”

American Tradition Partnership is part of a coalition of free market groups opposing this plan.  Pickens invested millions in a natural gas filling station company.  The bill would bail out his investment by filling his tank with your money.

It’s not free market capitalism, and Pickens is too good a businessman to need your paycheck to earn a profit.

American Tradition Partnership is now lobbying Congress to oppose the plan.  If “alternative” vehicles ever become financially successful, they should do it in a free market without handouts.

I need your help if we are to defeat this.

“The bill still has 180 co-sponsors from both parties, but a number of Republicans have dropped recently as the bill has come under fire from conservative think tanks,” POLITICO reports.

American Tradition Partnership is one of those groups.

But our power doesn’t come from our name, or from me sitting down with a congressman.

It comes from grassroots Americans like you.

American Tradition Partnership is the nation’s most effective advocate of rational energy and environmental policies because we speak for, and are supported by, people like you.

Could you take just a minute to call your congressman and ask him or her to oppose this bill?

Win or lose, your phone call will make a difference.

And as I said, American Tradition Partnership is successful because of support from grassroots Americans.

Could you also go to https://secure.americantradition.org and chip in $10 to support our pro-freedom, pro-jobs program?

We are steadily whittling away at support for this taxpayer handout, but we haven’t chopped it down.

So please take just a minute to exercise your First Amendment rights.  Call today, and go to https://secure.americantradition.org and chip in $10.

P.S. Co-sponsors for a bill that would bail out a politically-connected “green” investor are “dropping like flies,” POLITICO reports. But we need to turn up the pressure if we are to win.  Can you please call your congressman right now at 202-224-3121 and ask them to oppose the Pickens “green car” plan?

Help me fight back and protect our prosperity and freedoms for  generations to come.  Go to https://secure.americantradition.org to chip in just $10.

Obama continues to mess with Texas

Posted on May 25, 2011 by Donald Ferguson

The Texas Tribune reports:

“West Texas lawmakers are worried that a federal proposal to protect the dunes sagebrush lizard could halt the production of millions of barrels of oil and gas. The Texas House this morning approved a resolution calling on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to rescind its proposal to bring the lizard under the Endangered Species Act.  “It is a multi-billion-dollar issue for the economy of this state,” Rep. Warren Chisum, R-Pampa, who wrote the resolution…

“…UT officials say adding the lizard to the endangered species list could halt work on about 1,000 oil and gas wells. And that, they say, would take about seven million barrels of oil per year out of production. “Listing the dunes sagebrush lizard as an endangered species would inflict severe economic damage, harm property owners, and undermine higher education in the Lone Star State,” Chisum’s resolution states.”

Just more reason to back Sen. Rand Paul’s REINS Act (S.299) which requires any proposed federal regulation with an economic impact greater than $100 million to be approved by Congress in stand-alone votes and signed by the president before it can be enacted, instead of some political activists with federal employee badges writing and rubber-stamping radical laws.

Oops: ‘Green’ plan to fix energy market modeled after Iran

Posted on by Donald Ferguson

Congress is currently debating a social engineering plan that would award tax credits to trucking companies that switch their fleet from gasoline-powered to natural gas-powered vehicles.

The plan is being pushed by T. Boone Pickens, who sank millions into a shaky company that builds natural gas filling stations and would profit handsomely if Congress manipulated the tax code to fix the energy market and create false demand for his investment.  Like his plan to bail out his Big Wind investments by forcing you to buy his power, it’s not a traditional American free market.  It’s crony capitalism.

Pickens claims this social engineering plan for his natural gas car experiment would wean the United States from imported oil.  He holds up Iran as his example, which is forcing its citizens to begin driving these bombs on wheels.

But there’s a reason Iran is forcing people to drive natural gasmobiles, as Steven Milloy reports on FoxNews.com:

“Although Iran is a major oil and gas producer, it lacks oil-refining capacity and must import about 50 percent of its gasoline. To be less vulnerable to international pressure concerning its nuclear program, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad decided to reduce Iran’s reliance on imported gasoline.

“He started with rationing in May 2007. But that quickly led to violent social unrest.

“Ahmadinejad then decided to convert Iran’s new car fleet to natural gas. So 60 percent of Iran’s car production this year — about 429,000 vehicles — will be dual-fuel-ready, capable of running on both gasoline and natural gas.

“But contrary to Pickens assertion, Iran isn’t trying to use less oil:; It’s trying to use less imported gasoline — and only to thwart a possible international gasoline embargo.”

Call your congressman at 202-224-3131.  Tell them to vote NO on the natural gas vehicle scheme.

Gang Green out to destroy clean, affordable energy

Posted on May 23, 2011 by Donald Ferguson

Dear ATP supporter,

The multi-billion dollar wind energy lobby is waging a campaign of lies.

“Big Wind,” unable to compete without buy-it-or-else mandates and mountains of taxpayer subsidies, is out to destroy their clean, affordable competitors by spreading outrageous lies about hydraulic fracturing, also known as “fracking.”

Today’s Financial Times tells it all.

“Construction of new wind farms in the US is set to decline next year because of competition from cheap natural gas,” the international newspaper reports.

“Capacity from new wind installations in the US dropped from 10,000 megawatts (MW) in 2009 to 5,100 MW last year…The American Wind Energy Association…estimates employment fell by 10,000 jobs last year.”

With wind power collapsing across the country, and threatening their lifeline of taxpayer cash, Gang Green is waging an all-out war to destroy “cheap natural gas.”

And it’s in the form of a sick, twisted campaign of lies about fracking.

Their goal?

* Destroy your access to clean, affordable, safe energy and rob you of your right to pick from a variety of energy sources.

* Force you to continue subsidizing their expensive, failing experiments.

* One coal and natural gas are eradicated, literally power down the American economy by forcing everything to rely on unreliable and insanely expensive wind and solar power.

We must stop them.

May I ask you to please go to https://secure.americantradition.org to chip in $250, $100, $50, $35 or just $10?

And how are they doing it?

* A fake “documentary” that spews endless false claims for two hours.

* Paying activists to drive or fly into communities and begin terrorizing residents with fake stories and smears intended to shut down local drilling projects

* Flooding Congress and state legislatures with paid staffers to make lawmakers think their constituents oppose natural gas jobs.

Make no mistake.  These “frack attacks” are part of a war on YOU.

“If you ask me, it’d be a little short of disastrous for us to discover a source of clean, cheap, abundant energy because of what we would do with it,” famous environmentalist Amory Smith once said.

“Free Enterprise really means rich people get richer. They have the freedom to exploit and psychologically rape their fellow human beings in the process . . . Capitalism is destroying the earth,” Helen Caldicott of the so-called “Union of Concerned Scientists” screeched.

“The only hope for the world is to make sure there is not another United States. We can’t let other countries have the same number of cars, the amount of industrialization, we have in the U.S.,” the Environmental Defense Fund’s Michael Oppenheimer once snarled.

As you can see, Gang Green is doing whatever they can do destroy your freedom to choose clean, affordable, efficient energy.  Their attacks on fracking, like their attacks on coal jobs, are intended to destroy not just the hundreds of thousands of natural gas jobs that power our economy, but our economy and even capitalism itself.

Please help me fight back against Gang Green and protect our freedoms, our jobs and our economy.

Go to https://secure.americantradition.org to chip in just $10.

Your gift of $10 or more will help me flood Congress and state legislatures with phone calls and petitions from Americans like you.

Even the international media are catching on to the fact Big Wind is a taxpayer-dependent failure.  If forced to compete in a fair market, they would be out of business quickly.

That’s why these Gang Green has resorted to attacks and intimidation to maintain their iron grip on taxpayer handouts.

Help me bust them, and set our economy free.

Donald Ferguson
Executive Director
American Tradition Partnership

P.S.   An eye-opening story in today’s Financial Times tells the story.   Clean, affordable natural gas poses a threat to the multi-billion dollar  taxpayer-dependent wind energy lobby.

That’s why they’re trying to literally eliminate their more-efficient,  less-expensive competition by spreading outrageous lies about hydraulic  fracturing.

Help me fight back and protect our prosperity and freedoms for  generations to come.  Go to https://secure.americantradition.org to chip in just $10.

When it comes to ‘the end is here’ craziness, no one beats enviros

Posted on May 21, 2011 by Donald Ferguson

‘Gang Greens’ Doomsday prophets are even nuttier
When it comes to ‘the end is here’ craziness, environmentalists top Harold Camping

WASHINGTON – On the day radio broadcaster Harold Camping wrongly predicted marks the beginning of the end of the world, the nation’s largest grassroots advocate of rational environmental policy reminded Americans Saturday that “Doomsday prophets” like Camping have nothing on leading environmentalists when it comes to completely phony predictions of planetary doom.

“If you want predictions of global doom as hateful as they are phony no one beats the environmentalist movement,” said American Tradition Partnership Executive Director Donald Ferguson.  “Blinded by a burning hatred of technology, science and mankind itself, environmentalists routinely turn their fantasies of wiping out humanity into phony ‘predictions’ the world will end unless they are handed government power. They hope these scare tactics will terrorize citizens and lawmakers into adopting their hateful, unscientific agenda.”

“The environmentalist movement will be wiped out long before the Earth will,” said Ferguson.  “Public support for the environmentalist movement continues to plummet, and their decades-long record of phony ‘predictions’ about climate have much to do with their continuing marginalization.”

Long before Camping was predicting the End Times would begin May 21, leading environmentalists were embarrassing themselves with crazy predictions like:

“This cooling has already killed hundreds of thousands of people. If it continues and no strong action is taken, it will cause world famine, world chaos and world war, and this could all come about before the year 2000.” – Lowell Ponte “The Cooling”, 1976 (1)

“The battle to feed all of humanity is over. In the 1970′s and 1980′s hundreds of millions of people will starve to death in spite of any crash programs embarked upon now.”
- Paul Ehrlich, “The Population Bomb” (2)

“I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000.” – Paul Ehrlich, 1969 (3)

“There are ominous signs that the earth’s weather patterns have begun to change dramatically and that these changes may portend a drastic decline in food production – with serious political implications for just about every nation on earth. The drop in food production could begin quite soon… The evidence in support of these predictions has now begun to accumulate so massively that meteorologists are hard-pressed to keep up with it”. – Peter Gwynne, Newsweek, April 28, 1975 (4)

“This (cooling) trend will reduce agricultural productivity for the rest of the century.” – Peter Gwynne, Newsweek 1976 (5)

“Hundreds of millions of people will soon perish in smog disasters in New York and Los Angeles…the oceans will die of DDT poisoning by 1979…the U.S. life expectancy will drop to 42 years by 1980 due to cancer epidemics.” – Paul Ehrlich, Ramparts (6)

“In ten years all important animal life in the sea will be extinct. Large areas of coastline will have to be evacuated because of the stench of dead fish.” – Paul Ehrlich on Earth Day, 1970 (7)

“If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but eleven degrees colder by the year 2000…This is about twice what it would take to put us in an ice age.” – Kenneth E.F. Watt on Earth Day, 1970 (8)

“Civilization will end within 15 or 30 years unless immediate action is taken against problems facing mankind.” – George Wald, Harvard Biologist, on Earth Day, 1970 (9)

“Population will inevitably and completely outstrip whatever small increases in food supplies we make… The death rate will increase until at least 100-200 million people per year will be starving to death during the next ten years.” – Paul Ehrlich, Mademoiselle, April 1970 (10)

“Most of the people who are going to die in the greatest cataclysm in the history of man have already been born.  By…[1975] some experts feel that food shortages will have escalated the present level of world hunger and starvation into famines of unbelievable proportions. Other experts, more optimistic, think the ultimate food-population collision will not occur until the decade of the 1980s.” – Paul Ehrlich, Ramparts (11)

“Demographers agree almost unanimously on the following grim timetable: by 1975 widespread famines will begin in India; these will spread by 1990 to include all of India, Pakistan, China and the Near East, Africa. By the year 2000, or conceivably sooner, South and Central America will exist under famine conditions….By the year 2000, thirty years from now, the entire world, with the exception of Western Europe, North America, and Australia, will be in famine” – Peter Gunter, The Living Wilderness, Spring 1970 (12)

“This vast tragedy, however, is nothing compared to the nutritional disaster that seems likely to overtake humanity in the 1970s (or, at the latest, the 1980s) … A situation has been created that could lead to a billion or more people starving to death.” – Paul Ehrlich, “The End of Affluence” (13)
