Washington Times: Bipartisan support for REINS Act builds

Your support is making a difference.

The following is an excerpt from a guest column in today’s Washington Times by George H.W. Bush administration Transportation Secretary and George W. Bush chief of staff Andrew Card and Democratic former U.S. Senator Evan Bayh, urging congressional support for American Tradition Partnership’s top legislative priority, Sen. Rand Paul’s REINS Act (S. 299.)

As the country emerges from one of the most serious economic downturns in recent history, the last thing we need are more regulations that impose heavy burdens on job creators. One way to get Americans back to work is by removing excessive and costly regulations that make it harder for businesses to grow…

…Congress should wrestle back the unprecedented power that it has yielded to bureaucratic agencies in the past few decades.

Today, nearly all major regulations go into effect without the people’s representatives in Congress ever voting on them. Congress needs to play a larger role by exercising more vigorous oversight regarding the implementation of the sweeping laws that it passes.

A good place to start would be to pass legislation pending in Congress to guarantee an up-or-down vote, with no Senate filibuster, on regulations with an economic impact of more than $100 million…

That prominent column in a major Washington, D.C. newspaper is a direct result of grassroots pressure from American Tradition Partnership and our allies.  But both the Senate and House bills are still stuck in committee and need many more co-sponsors if we are to get them out of committee and to the floor for a recorded vote.

Call your congressional representative and both senators at 202-224-3121 and urge them to co-sponsor the REINS Act (S. 299 and H.R. 10.)

And thank you so much for your support of American Tradition Partnership.  Please keep it up.
