ATP statement on Montana free speech victory

American Tradition Partnership Executive Director Donald Ferguson released the following statement Monday following District Judge Jeffrey Sherlock ‘s ruling that  Montana’s ban on independent expenditures by corporations violates rights guaranteed by the First Amendment:

“The First Amendment was intended to protect citizens from the government, not to shield politicians from criticism.  The court has restored fairness and balance to elections by allowing employers to speak freely about the radical environmentalist candidates and issues that threaten your right to earn a living.”

The Wall Street Journal covered the decision in this article, citing Montana’s lone stance in defying the Supreme Court decision.
